Issuing New New Zealand Passport
The application process to apply for a New Zealand Passport for adults & children
If you want to obtain a new passport and you are a citizen of New Zealand then you have the option to apply for a new one either via paper or online.
A RealMe verified account would be needed if you choose to apply for a passport online.
If you do not have a RealMe account, then you would need to set one, which can take a couple of days.
After that, you can apply for a passport. If you already have one, then you can start the process for the application. For that, you would need
- Digital coloured photo, which is not more than6 months old.
- RealMe verified the identity account’s associated mobile phone number
- Digital coloured photo, which is not more than6 months old. This can be in. JPEG or. JPG file
- Prezzi card, Debit or Credit card to pay the standard fee for an adult passport of $180.
For those who do not want to get a RealMe account set up, then they can download the application form, fill it and mail it or hand it over in person. You would also need a recent photograph, which is not more than 6 months old and should meet the eligibility criteria.
If you presently hold a passport that is issued by the Government, you can get it renewed easily. To renew your passport online or offline, you would need to provide the following documents
- Details of the previous passport like the date of issue, the passport number, the person who issued the passport, your complete name
- Digital coloured photo, which is not more than6 months old. This can be in. JPEG or. JPG file
- Details of the referee such as their email address, phone number, DOB, name and passport number

Replacement application for damaged, stolen or lost passport
In case your passport is damaged, stolen or lost, you can get a replacement passport by following the steps mentioned below
In case, it is stolen or lost
- You would need to call 0800 22 50 50 (if you are within the country) or + 64 (4) 463 9360 (if overseas)
- It is also advisable to report the same to the local authorities.

For the replacement NZ passport, the following would be needed

Check the status of your Nz Passport application
In case you have already applied for a passport and want to know the present status of your application, you can visit the official website of the passport authorities and check the status easily. There are various search options available such as
Search with the Name of the applicant
Search with the Reference ID number provided after the documents have been verified and approved for a new/renewal passport.
Express services
The passport authorities also have an express service for issuing or renewing a passport. This can be done with a nominal fee depending on how fast you need it.
Emergency Passport or Travel document
In case of an emergency and you have to travel in or out of the country, the citizen can apply for an emergency passport or travel document if they do not have a passport. This could be because their passport is lost, stolen, sent for renewal or applied for a new one since they do not have one or because it is damaged. This would take around 3 working days. You can also speak to the authorities in case you need it earlier than that.
Note- The applicant has 3 months to collect their new/renewed passport. It is not collected then the application will be cancelled and they would have to repeat the procedure once again.
